3 RULES to combining fonts:
1. Contrast font weights and point sizes.
2. Keep the "mood" "style" or "vibe" of the fonts the same.
3. Make sure your fonts are different enough. (too similar of fonts will not look good)
Serif vs. Sans-serif
Serif
Small lines attached to the end of a strokein a letter or symbol, such as labeled in the chart above on the letter "p."
Sans-serif
A typface "without" serifs. Sans is french for "without."

Activity 1. Serif/Sans-Serif & Script:
Instructions:
Please open a new Adobe Illustrator Document (OR GRAVIT). (8.5 by 11 inches) Create a T-chart with the categories "Serif" and "Sans-serif." Find 10 Serif fonts and 10 Sans-serif fonts. Write the name of the typeface in that given font under the correct category. Underneath this add a category for Script/Stylized fonts. Find 10 of these in the same format.
Save as a PDF and submit to classroom.
Here is an example:
Please open a new Adobe Illustrator Document (OR GRAVIT). (8.5 by 11 inches) Create a T-chart with the categories "Serif" and "Sans-serif." Find 10 Serif fonts and 10 Sans-serif fonts. Type out a word that has at least 4 letters using both upper and lowercase letters. Copy and paste the word so that you have two of the same word in the same sized font. Optimize the kerning of that font by making sure the volume between each letter is as equal as possible.
Save your document as a PDF and submit to classroom.
